11.000 CAR WASHES AND LAUNDROMATS*

An ordinance providing for the regulation of washracks and motor vehicle laundries and laundromats for the cleaning of clothing and to regulate the hours of operation thereof.

THE CITY OF READING ORDAINS:

11.001 Compliance with ordinance.

Sec. 1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to operate, cause or permit to be operated any washrack, motor vehicle laundry or laundromat for the laundering of clothing within the corporate limits of the City of Reading except in accordance with the provisions of this ordinance.

11.002 Duty of owner or operator.

Sec. 2. It shall be the duty of the owner or operator of any washrack, motor vehicle laundry or laundromat for the laundering of clothing to:

(a) keep the premises free of debris and litter;

(b) prevent excessive noise and rowdiness;

(c) maintain peace, order and safety on the premises.

11.003 Operation between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Sec. 3. Washracks, motor vehicle laundries or laundromats for the laundering of clothing as hereinafter defined shall not be open or operated between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. unless the owner or operator thereof or such owner's or operator's agent is personally present on the premises during said hours.

11.004 Definition.

Sec. 4. For the purposes of this ordinance, a washrack, motor vehicle laundry or laundromat for the purpose of laundering clothing shall include all operations on the premises where facilities are provided for coin-operated or self-service washing of motor vehicles or clothing.

11.005 Effective date.

Sec. 5. This ordinance shall become effective on June 25, 1977.
