3.000 ASSISTANT CHIEF OF POLICE

An ordinance to appoint an Assistant Chief of Police and to prescribe the powers and duties thereof.

THE CITY OF READING ORDAINS THAT:

3.001 Appointment.

Sec. 1. Subject to the approval of Council, the Chief of Police may appoint an Assistant Chief of Police to serve at the sole discretion of the Chief of Police at a salary to be designated by the Council.

3.002 Duties.

Sec. 2. The Assistant Chief so appointed shall perform such duties as are prescribed for him by the Chief of Police.

3.003 Powers and responsibilities.

Sec. 3. In the absence of the Chief of Police, the Assistant Chief shall have all the powers and responsibilities of the Chief except as the same may be from time to time limited by the Chief or by the Council.

Effective date. This Ordinance shall become effective on the 29th day of January, 1981, following publication pursuant to Charter.
